home buyers would not even consider a house with a wet basement."

The key to mold control is moisture control. It is important to dry water damaged areas and items within 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth. If mold is a problem in your home, clean up the mold and get rid of the excess water or moisture. Fix leaky plumbing or other sources of water. Wash mold off hard surfaces with detergent and water, and dry completely. Absorbent materials (such as ceiling tiles and carpet) that become moldy may have to be replaced.

Of all the things you can do to improve your home, waterproofing ranks highest from a return on investment standpoint. When we first saw this‚ we were even surprised. But think about it‚ in many instances you‚ you're increasing the total available space of your home by 33% to 50%.
The fact is, fixing these problems is more of an investment than an expense. And, now that you know neglecting these problems makes your home less healthy‚ it should make fixing these problems a higher priority.
No other investment in your home makes more sense... or offers a higher return.
How much sense does it make?
- (1) To devote up to 50% of your monthly mortgage payment to space that can‚ not be used...
- (2) To not fix the problem now‚
- (3) To not realize that your home is worth less now
- (4) To prolong an inevitable repair expense
